The Paradox

1. use the following 5 words: someone, outcasts, since, links, plates

"'Outcasts' implies that it wasn't by choice." Terusa bit his lip, then sat down on a rock. "I think it was a mutual thing. We haven't had anything in common since, well, ever."

The bird of paradise sitting in a nearby tree twisted its head to preen, and Terusa let himself be distracted. Someone had recommended this, and it was odd but he couldn't remember anymore who it was.

The sun was bright, and yet not too hot. The oasis, a virtual world on a one of his data plates - his? he had never bought it - seemed deserted. Deserted in a desert. A scorpion dashed out of a hole, turned around, and dashed back in, hunting something too small or fast for Terusa to see.

He shook his head and stood up. "This is silly. I don't even remember what it's supposed to accomplish. Program end."

The view didn't change.

"Program end."

The bird of paradise ruffled its wings and re-folded them, staring at him.

"Cute. Exit program. Display menu. Display links." Terusa tried to think of other ways of saying the same thing. "Terminate."

"I really must insist that you maintain conversational voice practices."

Terusa looked toward the voice. The bird of paradise was eating a fruit that it held pinned to the branch with one foot.

"End program."

"That's not very conversational. Far too commanding."

"Ha. Ha. Ok, whatever."
