Talla edged around one of the games, watching the spectators more than the players. They were standing right at the edge of the field, looking interested, happy... He slipped between two people with a muttered apology, looking for faces that might become disruptive.
His movement drew a few glances, but few people watched him for long. There had been hints that somebody might come and start something, redirecting all this energy and igniting a riot.
Off to one side, an organizer was signing forms and organizing teams. To another, silly behaviour from players waiting their turn.
2) Use the phrase "It doesn't take much". (10 min)
A few gangly youngsters were huddled together, not paying much attention to the game. Talla wandered toward them, making it look like he was interested in something else. When he got nearer he noticed that they were playing a card game, so he wandered past without stopping. One of them glanced up at him, then back to the cards.
Cheering erupted farther down, as one of the games ended. Talla insinuated himself into the disappointed fans, watching them closely. It didn't take much to turn disappointment to anger, especially when the winning fans tended to jeer and heckle the losers.
The angry expressions didn't look to grow into anything more, but he stayed with the group, putting on his own annoyed look. When he spotted two other security guards joining them, he meandered out of the crowd and stopped at another game, this one still setting up.
3) Use the phrase "I hate this new guy."(10 min)
Three games employees were working on the equipment, checking it over before the next game started. One was being ordered about, clearly the junior, but he went about his work with a will despite the sullen expressions on his seniors' faces.
Instinct made Talla pause and watch. He wasn't sure why, but something bothered him.
He edged around the field, squeezing between the quickly gathering fans toward the workers. He turned his head slightly, so he appeared to be looking toward the players, and turned his left-ear microphone on.
"Pass the wrench," one of the workers said, suddenly clear.
Talla watched the players.
There was an indistinct mumble, then in a quiet voice, one of the workers said, "I hate this new guy. His stuff always gets done, but there's just something about how he does it..."
Talla turned involuntarily to look at the workers, and heard the babble of the gathering fans plunge into his skull. With a wince he looked back at the players, but the games staff were done their work and were silently handing down their tools.
